New Careers for SWAP Learners

Hart Learning + Development’s Employability team are celebrating the achievements of Shanaye and Tashan, who have completed their Sector-based Work Academy Programme (also known as SWAP) with a local nursery.

The team are pleased to report that both Shanaye and Tashan have secured employment with the nursery as a result!

Ozlem, who manages the nursery, needed help to fill 2 open vacancies after struggling to find the right candidates. Our Employability team were able to collaborate with the nursery to design a specific training programme that would enable learners to develop an understanding of the Early Years Framework and prepare for working in a nursery or school setting. To complement the classroom learning with Hart L+D’s tutors, the nursery also provided 4 hour shifts for the learners to showcase their skills and gain real insight into the nursery environment. They even provided a guaranteed interview for each candidate.

Shanaye and Tashan have now found employment as a result of the programme, and are applying their newfound knowledge and confidence to work they enjoy. Shanaye’s decision to join the programme came after being unemployed for just over a year and feeling unsure about the direction she wanted her career to go in. She was also finding it difficult to get the opportunity to appear in front of an employer.

Now, she’s thriving in her new job. She told us: “Starting the two-week course provided me with a positive insight and a plethora of information that has allowed me to confidently enter a new field and confidently shine; teaching the children what I have learnt, following rules, or helping our community’s children to develop and learn.”

Ozlem has also noticed the positive impact of the SWAP on Shanaye and the other learners who came through the programme. She told us: “Shanaye starting with us is going amazingly well, she’s so bright and always so positive. It’s amazing that she did this course as it’s given her that jump-start into working in childcare, providing her with knowledge and experience – even though she’d not worked with children before. She is always wanting to learn, and we are excited to watch her journey!”

Congratulations to Shanaye and Tashan on your success!
