Learner Insights: Chloe

At Hart Learning + Development, we are committed to helping individuals and organisations to thrive through professional development opportunities such as apprenticeships.

Chloe works with the John Lewis Partnership as a Partner & People Manager and is currently in the process of completing her Level 5 Operations Management apprenticeship with Hart Learning + Development.

Reflecting on her apprenticeship experience, Chloe commented:

“I have found the apprenticeship to be challenging at times, but also enjoyable and incredibly rewarding. It has been invaluable to me in terms of stretching my abilities and building my confidence.

“I have learned and researched so much during my apprenticeship. I have relished studying leadership styles, tools, models, and techniques that have helped me in my personal and professional development and in my role. My apprenticeship journey has also supported me to find out more about myself. For example, receiving feedback has been a rather difficult obstacle, but I now have far greater self-awareness and confidence to help me going forward.

“Studying the practical skills of leadership and planning has given me a far deeper understanding of the business vision and needs. Learning how important the Partnership’s values are, what they really mean, and taking time to find examples of how they are used when the company does business has also helped. The apprenticeship has reinforced my pride to work for the Partnership, and I have a far deeper affinity with our work towards sustainable practices and how I can contribute to that success.

“To keep myself motivated, I have focused on the long-term gains that continuing professional development would bring. That focus has been really important to me as, even when my job has been difficult, I was able to keep going.

“My proudest achievement so far is the ‘retirement journey’ project I completed, which explained the retirement process within the Partnership. It would never have made it into reality if it wasn’t for the mock project element of my apprenticeship. I know that any colleague who sees it will have a greater understanding of the retirement process as a result of that work, and it’s a really great feeling to have delivered something to help my colleagues.”
