Meet The Team: Denise Allsopp

At Hart Learning + Development, we know how crucial maths and English skills can be in a person’s career as well as their private life.

That is why we work with a dedicated team of professionals whose goal is to support learners in achieving Functional Skills qualifications, especially those learners who previously thought these were unattainable.

Denise Allsopp works with Hart Learning + Development as the Programme Manager for Functional Skills and is responsible for overseeing the delivery of these programmes. Denise brings her own experience of studying maths and English to the role, drawing from positive experiences in her past to help provide the best possible learning opportunities to apprentices.

Find out more about Denise’s Hart Learning + Development career journey in her Meet the Team interview below:

What inspired you to pursue this career path?

“I’m dyslexic, and when I was at school, my teachers didn’t always know how to support me and help me understand areas of English. I started my career journey as an apprentice after leaving school and have gained all my qualifications through apprenticeships – from fitness qualifications through to learner support. I have gained my maths and English Level 2 qualifications through these apprenticeships, thanks to the support and help of my amazing maths & English (M&E) teacher. The support they provided made such a difference that I really wanted to be able to do the same for others who struggled at school but still wanted a career.”

What do you enjoy the most about working with Hart Learning + Development?

“I like the flexibility of the role and the variety of tasks and activities it involves. I also enjoy the way myself and my team members share ideas and best practices to help each of us improve in our roles.

“I also like that our work is recognised. One of the highlights of my career with Hart Learning + Development so far was winning a ONE award with my team at the 2022 winter staff conference. This is a peer-nominated award, and the Functional Skills team were chosen for our ‘focus on delivering the most excellent experience for learners’, which was brilliant feedback to receive.”

If you could speak to someone who is thinking of working with Hart Learning + Development, what would you say?

“Hart Learning + Development supports staff from managers to teachers to develop and move forward with their careers, and they also care about the learners. We support all levels of learners to help them on the right path to achieving what they want.”
