Meet The Team: Keith Fisk

For employers working in the gas engineering, plumbing, and heating sector, staff members must be trained to a high standard and be familiar with all the health and safety regulations that are in place. That’s why apprenticeships are a popular choice with employers in this sector, providing apprentices with practical learning opportunities which support the development of these industry-critical skills and behaviours.

Meet Keith Fisk, who works with Hart Learning & Development as a Gas Operative Delivery Tutor and Leader. A previous business owner himself, Keith understands the needs of employers working within the plumbing, heating, and gas engineering sector and passes his own industry experience onto the next generation of employees.

Find out more about Keith’s experience of apprenticeships with Hart Learning & Development in his interview below:

What inspired you to start a career in training apprentices?

“Before I joined Hart Learning & Development, I was running my own plumbing, heating, and gas engineering business. I decided that I wanted to make a change and pass on my wealth of knowledge to the next generation which is why I applied for the role with Hart Learning & Development. As a tutor and programme leader, I’m able to give apprentice learners the same opportunities I had when starting in the trade, which has helped me to have a great career.”

What do you enjoy the most about working with Hart Learning & Development?

“I enjoy watching learners progress into their chosen career and achieve their goals, whether that’s short-term or longer-term goals. Knowing that my input and assistance have helped them achieve this is really rewarding and it gives me a great sense of satisfaction.

“One of my highlights of working here at Hart Learning & Development has been introducing the new Gas Engineering apprenticeship to our portfolio of training opportunities. It’s a great pathway for the plumbers that I teach to continue their careers, learning new skills and opening up new doors to future career options and work opportunities.”

What makes your apprenticeship courses stand out to learners and employers?

“My courses are up to date with the industry standards, so apprentices finish their programmes with the knowledge and experience they need to keep both themselves and their customers safe when working on projects. I also use my own recent industry knowledge to support their learning and development. My experience allows me to bring real-life examples into my teaching and allows my apprentices to think about how they can apply what they’ve learnt to these situations.

“In addition, our facilities are modern and replicate a true work environment, which is ideal for helping apprentices gain relevant skills and build their confidence before heading out to real client work.”

If you could speak to someone who is thinking of starting an apprenticeship with Hart Learning & Development, what would you say to them?

Our environment is relaxed, but our expectations and standards are high as we want you to achieve your full potential.
