What inspired you to work in employability programmes?
“I’ve always had a passion to help those who faced significant barriers to employment. Sometimes, these people are only viewed in terms of the struggles or barriers they’ve faced, rather than the actual person that’s underneath; my goal is always to make sure that every individual is seen, as well as their potential for growth and development.”
How did your career experience lead you to North Hertfordshire College?
“I started my career working in banking, but I then made the move into education. I previously worked in the prison sector where I helped to rehabilitate prisoners through education opportunities. From there, I moved into community teaching and worked my way up to management roles. I’ve now been Head of Employability at North Hertfordshire College for eight years, and I still absolutely love every single day.
“It’s great to be part of something so inspirational. Being able to lead a team who passionately work so tirelessly to change lives makes every day worthwhile.”
What do you enjoy the most about working with North Hertfordshire College?
“I like seeing my team grow. Sometimes they change roles, or they get promoted, and I enjoy being part of their journeys. It’s also brilliant to see my team’s passion for education make an impact on our employability students, because they really help to make a difference in their lives.
“Adult community education is so important; it is literally life changing and can reshape generational ideologies. Being a small part of someone’s learning and life journey is such a privilege.”
