Meet The Team: Stan Viana

One of the benefits of apprenticeships, as well as allowing apprentices to earn while they learn, is the opportunity to work with tutors who are industry-experienced themselves. This industry understanding means that Hart Learning & Development’s training meets the needs of your sector and provides your apprentice with the skills, knowledge, and experience they need to succeed in their career.

Meet Stan Viana, who works with Hart Learning & Development as a Motor Vehicle tutor, assessor, and IQA. With a rich work history in the motor vehicle industry, Stan brings his industry knowledge and training experience to his apprentice learners to help them raise their aspirations and reach their career dreams.

Find out more about Stan’s experience of apprenticeships with Hart Learning & Development in his interview below:

What inspired you to start a career in apprenticeships?

“I was an apprentice myself at the beginning of my career and progressed through the industry to become a Fleet Engineer. I enjoyed my experience as an apprentice and my experience of working in the industry, and I wanted to share that knowledge with the next generation of motor vehicle technicians.”

Before you started working with Hart Learning & Development, what did you do?

“I worked in the auto-trade industry for over 50 years. During my time in the sector, I worked on both light and heavy vehicles. I trained all the apprentices and staff in-house, helping them build their skills and improve their job prospects through continuous professional development. I also covered Quality for the company and ensured that standards were met and maintained.”

Why do you think apprenticeships with HL+D are a good choice for employers?

“Our team are committed to providing an enjoyable learner journey for all of our apprentices. All of our Motor Vehicle Maintenance team have a fantastic range of experiences to share with their learners, and that really makes a difference to the learning opportunities that we provide.

“I also have the opportunity to teach my apprenticeship learners as if they were my own employees, which means I’m able to pass on the knowledge and experience they need to succeed in the future. The whole Hart Learning & Development team are also really supportive and friendly, and we all work together to ensure our apprentices receive the best experiences and opportunities from us and enjoy their time learning with us. That’s something that we’ve heard as feedback from our learners, that they’ve had a great experience and our staff are caring and supported them on the way.”

Looking back at your time with HL+D so far, what has been one of your highlights?

“My favourite thing is watching my apprentices turn into productive members of staff in their organisation, and then going on and supervising their own apprentices. One of my previous apprentices that I taught now owns and runs his own garage and we work alongside each other to prepare the next generation of mechanics. It’s very rewarding to see everything come together like that.”
