Course overview

The AAT Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians offers technical training in accounting and is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue or progress their career in accountancy and or finance. The purpose of the AAT Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians is to enhance the skills developed from the AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting, enabling students to maximise opportunities in their current or new employment. By studying for this qualification, students will acquire professional accountancy and finance skills that will be useful throughout their careers.

The AAT Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians qualification will suit those who:

have completed the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting and would like to continue to build their accounting skills
are already working in finance and would like a formal recognition of their skills
would like to go on to become an AAT full member and/or study for chartered accountant status
would like to start their own business through the AAT licensed members scheme

This flexible course is delivered in partnership with Mindful Education and combines online learning with face-to-face lessons in the classroom.

Please note: the course starts on 22nd September. Additional start dates may be available. Classroom attendance is weekly, every Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm.

Course content

In this qualification you will cover higher accounting tasks including drafting financial statements, managing budgets, personal and business tax calculations, audit, and business skills.

On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the AAT Level 4 Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians. This internationally recognised AAT qualification enables those working in accounting or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career to gain knowledge, practical experience and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

UNITS OF STUDY

The Level 4 course covers a range of key areas, including:
● Financial accounting
● Management accounting
● Audit and internal controls
● Principles of taxation
● Advanced business awareness

Course delivery – online and on campus

We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and On Campus model.

Online –you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on-demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons are accompanied by animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials and interactive case studies help to enhance the learning experience further and learners should expect to spend around 7-9 hours studying independently online each week.

On Campus –you benefit from regular classes with a college tutor – without having to commit to attending multiple evenings each week. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.

Entry requirements

Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Accounting with a sound knowledge of accounting principles
Preferably already working in finance
Have a good standard of English and maths due to working within finance
Interview with AAT tutor
Laptop/PC is required to complete work on the online Mindful Platform

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

This course is assessed through computer-based exams and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification a unit at a time.

FURTHER PROGRESSION

The accountancy skills developed by studying this qualification will enable you to seek employment with confidence, potentially run your own accounting practice, and/or to progress to study chartered/certified accountancy qualifications.

The Diploma for Professional Accounting Technicians can lead to the achievement of professional AAT (MAAT) status. The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including:

Additional information

As a higher technical qualification, this course is eligible for a loan under the lifelong learning entitlement. You can also apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover the cost of studying this course. Please ask a member of college staff for more information.

Weekly college classes will be held every Tuesday. The course is taught on a part-time study basis.

Our AAT information sessions will be held online. The event will provide further course information and the opportunity to discuss the course content and your career progression.

The evening events include a presentation by the Programme Manager providing insight into the learning programme, a demonstration of the Mindful Education platform, and an opportunity to speak to the course tutors, and guest speakers from the world of finance and accounting.
